How it works
Counting age exactly
Months have 28 to 31 days, and leap years add a day, so exact ages are easy to get wrong in your head. This calculator counts the way a calendar does: first the whole years since the birth date, then the whole months since the last birthday, then the remaining days.
Example: someone born on 15 January 2000 is 24 years, 1 month and 24 days old on 10 March 2024: 24 years to 15 January 2024, one month to 15 February, and 24 more days, because February 2024 had 29 days.
Age around the world
Almost everywhere, age starts at zero on the day you are born. Traditional East Asian age reckoning counted a newborn as one year old instead. South Korea, one of the last countries to use it in daily life, switched official documents to the international system in June 2023.

Frequently asked questions
How is age calculated?
Age counts the whole years since the date of birth, then the whole months since the last birthday, then the days left over. That is the same way you would count it on a calendar, and it accounts for months of different lengths and for leap years.
What if I was born on 29 February?
In years without 29 February, this calculator counts your birthday on 28 February. For legal purposes, some countries use 1 March instead, so check local rules if it matters.
Can I calculate my age on a specific date?
Yes. Change "Age on" to any date, for example to see how old you will be on a trip, an exam or a retirement date, or how old someone was at a moment in the past.
Is my date of birth stored?
No. The calculation happens in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent anywhere or saved.
